Tourist Attractions

Air Shrine

The world’s only shrine, dedicated to worshiping the gift from a mysterious universe—the boundless atmosphere (air). The “Air Shrine” venerates the symbolic representation of the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—that initiated the creation of the universe.
It is situated on a small hill surrounded by beech trees. A 5-square-meter stainless steel mirror serving as the altar reflects the beautiful scenery of the changing seasons, while the main shrine building is located beneath this mirrored altar.
In Asahi Town, June 5—World Environment Day—has been designated as “Air Day,” and every year the “Air Festival” is held on the Saturday or Sunday closest to June 5. In addition to opening the normally private main shrine for visitors, priestesses are invited to perform sacred kagura dances on the altar to pray for blessings.

Asahi Winery

Our ultimate goal in production is to extract the best flavor from high-quality grapes.
By using French oak barrels, we craft a deep sensory feast; in our winemaking, we pursue premium red wines with richly layered aromas.
White wine and rosé are produced through low-temperature fermentation of clear juice, offering a fresh, sweet flavor reminiscent of fruit tea.

Highway Rest Stop - Apple Forest

Located along National Highway 287 in Asahi Town, the Highway Rest Stop offers a retail section selling local specialties such as apples and other agricultural products and processed goods, as well as a light dining and tea area for refreshments. In addition, the facility features a tourist information center that introduces visitors to the town’s attractions. It is an ideal spot to take a short break on your journey.

Kunugidaira Rice Terraces

Selected as one of the ‘100 Best Rice Terraces in Japan,’ these rice terraces offer breathtaking scenery. The view from Ipponmatsu Park is especially beautiful and magnificent. The ever-changing landscapes across the four seasons add even more delight. (Closed in winter)

Oonuma Floating Islands (Nationally Designated Scenic Spot)

A sacred site discovered by mountain ascetics in the 9th year of Hakuhō (AD 680) and designated as a nationally recognized scenic spot in the 14th year of the Taishō era. It features a mysterious panorama of more than 30 small islands of various sizes floating on a tranquil lake, surrounded by ancient trees. As a popular site for spiritual bonding and prayer, the marsh is encircled by a walking trail that takes about 30 minutes to complete, along which approximately 300 species of wild plants can be observed growing naturally. (Closed in winter)

Ostrich Exhibition Park

Here, you can watch ostriches grazing in the park. Additionally, at facilities within the town, such as the highway rest stop, processed products made from locally produced ostrich meat—like Vienna sausages—and ostrich egg ice cream are available for sale.

Nestled in a small village called Cabin Village and surrounded by beech forests, there are cabins available in three sizes: accommodating 4, 6, and 10 people respectively.
You can choose the cabin type according to your group size.
Here, you can enjoy a carefree, joyful holiday with your family and friends—one that you’ll cherish and remember time and again.

Ski Resort

Located at the foot of Mount O-Ashihi—the main peak of the Asahi Mountain Range, one of Japan’s 100 famous mountains—lies the vast ski resort ASAHI Natural View Snow Paradise. Owing to its location on the leeward side of the Asahi Mountain Range, the resort receives abundant snowfall, creating a winter wonderland where you can experience soft, powdery snow. Its superior geographical position not only lets you admire the surrounding forests draped in silver but also, on clear days, offers a distant view of the beautiful Zao Mountain Range. Here, with a relatively stable climate and almost no strong winds, daytime temperatures are generally warm—providing a comfortable environment for children and beginners alike. Moreover, the resort features a steep deep powder section favored by advanced skiers, with a maximum slope of 34 degrees, attracting many ski enthusiasts to challenge themselves. It is truly a ski paradise that can be enjoyed by family travelers, beginners, and advanced skiers alike.
